RIPT Apparel

A faster store for a daily t-shirt drop

3New designs every day
RIPT Apparel website on a laptop and a phone

Client: RIPT Apparel

Industry: Online store

Market: USA

The starting point

RIPT Apparel is a Detroit brand selling limited-edition pop-culture t-shirts by independent artists, with three new designs every day. The shop ran on WordPress and WooCommerce, while a separate back office ran on Laravel 4.2 and PHP 5.6, both long past their end of life.

Every design was created in the back office and then pushed to the shop. When that sync failed, nobody noticed until customers did. Scheduled jobs lived on the server outside the code, and some of them had quietly stopped working.

What we built

  • A new storefront for the daily drop, Last Call, the Graveyard archive, collections, search and saved designs.
  • Artist profiles and design submissions, with existing artists keeping their logins.
  • One database for the store and the admin, so what is in the admin is what is on the site.
  • Checkout with Stripe, including Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • Print-on-demand orders sent to CustomCat, with tracking for every item.
  • A store admin for orders, refunds, customers, discounts, reviews and emails, with staff access and an audit trail.
  • Artist payouts through PayPal rebuilt on a supported SDK, and 19 scheduled jobs moved into the app.
  • Review requests emailed automatically once an order ships.
